TOPSoccer

What is TOPSoccer?
TOPSoccer ("The Outreach Program for Soccer") is a community-based recreational and instructional program for young athletes with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. TOPS is a national initiative designed by the US Youth Soccer Association. The program is operated, locally, by the Brockton Youth Soccer Association.
(For more information about TOPSoccer, please visit: usyouthsoccer.org).

When/where does the program operate?
Brockton TOPSoccer conducts an 8-week schedule of practices on Thursday evenings in both the Fall (Sept. - Oct.) and Spring (April - June) seasons. In the Fall, practices begin at 5:30pm (5:15pm in October) and run through 6:45pm (6:30pm in October). In the Spring, practices are from 6:00 pm through 7:15 pm.

The practices are held at the BYSA soccer fields (Field #2) on the campus of the Brockton VA Hospital.

Who is eligible to participate?
The program is open to children and young adults (ages 8-21) with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Parents are required to complete a Registration Form and a Medical Release Form when registering their child for the program. Parents (or adult guardians) must remain at the field during all practices.

What is the cost?
The fee is $15.00 per player, per season. Payment may be made in cash or by check (payable to "BYSA".) Players receive a free ball (while supplies last), a t-shirt and an end-of-the season party/award.

Who adminsters the program?
Brockton TOPSoccer is adminstered by TOPS Coach/Coordinator Rick Savignano. Coach Savignano is a past-President of BYSA and holds coach licenses issued by the USYSA. He has coached travel teams (both girls and boys) for BYSA for over twenty years and his U-18 Boys and U-19 Boys travel teams won state championships in 2011 and 2013. Coach Savignano was selected as the "Competitive Coach of the Year" by the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association in 2014. He is assisted by dedicated volunteer "buddies" from Brockton High School and local colleges as well as several of his former players.
